YOUR PET’S SURGERY AT THE VILLAGE ANIMAL CLINIC

Dr. McCarthy, Dr. Cheever, Dr. Hellreich, Dr. Coulter, and the entire staff at The Village Animal Clinic understand that the decision to allow your beloved companion to undergo surgery is never an easy one. We strive to ensure your pet’s procedure is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Your Pet’s Surgery

Perhaps the most important pre-surgical step is to discuss why we believe a particular procedure is necessary and what it entails. Our veterinarians will provide you with information on proper postoperative care and answer any questions you may have so that you feel comfortable knowing you are making the right choice for your pet. The Village Animal Clinic partners with our visiting board-certified surgeon, Dr. Rebecca Stanclift, who performs complex orthopedic and soft tissue procedures.

We regularly perform many types of surgeries, including but not limited to:

  • Spays and neuters
  • Eye surgery
  • Bladder surgery
  • Tumor removal
  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Cancer surgery
  • Skin surgery
  • Thyroid surgery

Surgery and Ethics

At The Village Animal Clinic, we do not perform declaw surgeries, ear cropping, or tail docking. We adopt an ethical stance that these procedures are unnecessary and illegal in many countries.

Because of our firm commitment to and a strong emphasis on animal welfare, we participate with Guilderhaven and its many members’ fostering and rescuing services to provide low-cost spay-neuter surgeries on feral and fostered cats, thereby improving the individual animals’ and our community’s well-being.

Anesthesia

Ensuring the health and safety of your pet during surgery is our utmost concern. It requires an anesthetic and monitoring regimen that adheres to the highest principles and ideals of quality care. We utilize a multi-parameter monitoring and anesthesia system to ensure your pet’s safety during all surgeries.

Before undergoing anesthesia, your pet receives a thorough exam by the veterinary surgeon, and presurgical blood tests are performed. The results of these tests and your pet’s past anesthetic history, breed, preexisting conditions, and age are used to create an individualized anesthesia protocol for your pet.

We utilize the most current state-of-the-art monitoring technology. During anesthesia, your pet is cared for by a well-trained and experienced veterinary technician using our monitoring system, which tracks blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and oxygen level, and displays a running EKG tracing.

Pain Management

We all know that pain hurts, but pain also has many other detrimental effects on your pet’s body. Pain slows healing, decreases activity, and causes behavioral changes (such as aggression, anxiety, and depression). Pain worsens diseases like arthritis and potentially some cancers. It interferes with the bond between you and your pet.

At The Village Animal Clinic, we practice the most up-to-date pain management protocols. For acute and chronic conditions, we use all our available and safe resources, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and oral and injectable analgesics, for the complete comfort of your pet.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell therapy is used for the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs and cats.

Stem cells have the unique ability to mature into cells with specialized functions, making them extremely valuable for repairing specific body tissues damaged by injury or disease. We can use these cells as an effective therapy for the treatment of arthritis.
